About

Hola, my name is Lukene. Pronounced “Lu-keh-neh”. And if you’re really curious, it means “light carrier” in Euskera, an old Basque tongue (or at least that's what my parents and Google told me). But no stress, you can call me “Luka” like most friends do.
I am a Mexican-trained anthropologist and freelance photographer, videographer, creative director, & digital marketer traveling full-time. Currently based in Siargao Island, the Philippines.
Photography is my primary mode of art, especially focusing on water and surf imagery. I mostly do work for surf-related products and brands, surf events like competitions, festivals, retreats, or surf camps. In addition to this, I document travel, cultures, and lifestyle with photography and filmmaking. I also work with individuals who want their photos taken for special occasions.
Art helps me understand this world and myself in it. Anything that gets me to create and play freely, engaging my mind, soul, and body, gives me a sense of purpose. I love all forms of visual creation, much like painting, which is another favorite of mine.
I love contemplating and feeling inspired by the life of this planet. I often find beauty in everything I see. Whether there is an overwhelming amount of beauty, too little, or absolutely none, I use my skills and passions to challenge life's shadows, transforming those experiences into vivid and dreamy pieces of art.
How did I get here?
